Tributes to inspirational teenager

AN EMOTIONAL farewell has been given to an inspiring and caring Moray teenager who lost his battle with cancer.

An inspiration to all who met him...Matthew Campbell.
An inspiration to all who met him...Matthew Campbell.

Matthew Campbell’s treatment for the disease over 14 years had fuelled a burning ambition to study medicine.

Matthew (16) had a passion to help others, and even as he battled his own illness, this spirit shone through. The teenager continued to volunteer at an old people’s home and helped out at a playgroup for young children with special learning needs.

His desire to help others also saw him sit on the Young People’s Advisory Group, established to help guide the development of a new children’s hospital in Edinburgh.

Tributes were paid to the popular Elgin Academy pupil at a remembrance service held in the school this week.

See ‘The Northern Scot’ print version for more on Matthew and how he touched people’s lives.
