Nairn send out League Cup warning to rivals

NAIRN County sent out a warning to their Highland League Cup rivals with a dazzling display at Formartine United.

County beat their fellow league title challengers 4-1 at North Lodge Park on Saturday in a preliminary round tie which was covered by SHFLtv (see highlights below).

Formartine, boss by ex-Elgin City, Caley Thistle and Aberdeen manager Steve Paterson, were no match for a rampant Nairn as two Conor Gethins goals paved the way for a comfortable win.

Former Elgin City striker Stuart Leslie was also on target for the visitors while Formartine had ex-Buckie defender Hamish Munro sent off.

Nairn now host Turriff in round 1, while all five Moray clubs come into play at the same stage a week on Saturday (March 15).

Holders Keith host Rothes in a derby, Forres visit Fort William, Buckie are at home to Cove and Lossiemouth visit Wick.

Meanwhile. two Moray sides are in midweek league action this Wednesday.

Keith make the trip to Aberdeen to play Cove, while Buckie Thistle welcome leaders Brora Rangers to Victoria Park.
