The 26-year-old joined the Speysiders from Deveronvale last summer for his second spell at MacKessack Park.
But Rothes manager Steven MacDonald allowed the player to go and find a club closer to his home base in Aberdeenshire.
"He signed for Dyce on Saturday. They are just 15 minutes from his home," said MacDonald.
"Steven had been training with Dyce and their manager Mike McKenzie was really keen on him, so it was all done really swiftly."
But with his Speysiders' squad reduced and with a couple of injuries to contend with, the manager is keen to bring in another defender.
"We need to replace now. That's us down to 18 players and Chris (Brown) and Dale (Wood) have both got ankle injuries so that takes us down to 16.
"It's something I need to keep working on."
Brown and Wood would miss Rothes' home game against Wick Academy on Wednesday if it beats the wintry weather currently affecting the Moray area.
They are also rated doubtful for Saturday's derby trip to face Lossiemouth.
