The club’s PGA golf professional John Murray has set up free taster sessions for women keen to try out golf in May, national golf month.

With numbers of lady golf members falling across the country, Moray is keen to buck the trend.

The Lossie club made history in 1929 by appointing the first female professional, Meg Farquhar (19) who became assistant pro at Moray.

"Membership with ladies in particular is quite low just now," said Murray. "It would be great if we could encourage more to play ."

Murray is staging free ladies’ sessions this Friday and Saturday (May 19 and 20). Interested parties can contact him to book in. Alternative sessions can be arranged if there is enough demand.

"On the back of that, we will put on dates to suit them, maybe a six week coaching block with a small minimum payment around £5 to continue with that," he added.

"I’m working with the club to try and get an introductory ticket where they would continue to get some coaching and we would take them on the golf course and introduce them to basic rules and etiquettes. It would give them some form of access to the new course, the quieter course.

"For someone looking to get going and go from lessons to start playing on the course we don’t want them being out on the old course where it's busy and might be intimidating.

"We are trying to create a nice pathway from someone who can try golf for the first time through to eventually joining the golf club in 12, 18 months, maybe two years time. They would get house membership they would get access to the new course and some additional coaching."

All equipment will be provided, with just trainers needed for the taster sessions.

Friday’s session is from 10–11.30am and Saturday’s between 2–3.30pm meeting at the clubhouse 15 minutes before the start.
