Future looks bleak for 80-year-old bowling club

Elgin Indoor Bowling Club – formed in 1936 – could shut down unless new members are recruited.bowls

Local bowlers of all ages and abilities are being asked to sign up for the club, which enjoys a thriving social scene as well as regular carpet sessions.

A meeting held at the club’s Elgin Community Centre home on Monday will determine whether or not it can continue.

“We know a few clubs in the area have closed down and we don’t want to become one of them,” said club president Gordon Farquhar.

“We have ladies and gents at our club who want to keep playing but we do need more. We will be there to welcome anyone who comes on Monday.”

The club holds bowling session on Mondays at 6.30pm and Wednesdays at 7pm, starting later this month.

Past president John Blackhall added: “It’s a fine social thing and we would like to attract new members to keep the club alive.”

For more information call secretary James Junor on 01343 546069.

Monday’s meeting is at the community centre at 7pm.
