Okay, here’s a shameless plug for a gig we are putting on with our good comrades at Mad Hatters in Inverness.
Hailed by Artrocker magazine as “one of the most exciting artists to emerge in a while”, Algernon Doll return to Inverness with a full band line up to promote their acclaimed third album Omphalic, released on June 30.
Omphalic sees Algernon Doll break out from his one-man band persona as he continues to hone and perfect an alternative guitar sound that harks back to a sound reminiscent of early 90s grunge.
At just 24 years old, Ewan Grant is carving out a place in the hearts and minds of fans and critics alike and has already released two critically-acclaimed albums, Camomile and Citalo-pop, that has seen him compared to the likes of Elliott Smith. Algernon Doll recently performed at goNORTH, Radio 1's Big Weekend and a sell-out show at Glasgow's Broadcast.
It makes perfect sense (and if you don’t see it now, trust us you will) to have Garden of Elks share the bill.
This will also be the Elks first return to Inverness since they thrashed goNORTH. Formed in 2012 they have played shows with Tokyo band Tacobonds, The Yawns and Deathcats as well as smashing it at Belladrum, Wickerman, Wide Days and the Nordiff-Robbins Awards.
They have released a string of sell out DIY cassettes and the July 18 date at Mad Hatters also doubles as a launch night for their new EP, YOOP. The title song will be online at the end of June and is a “Great Elking Blaster” of a track and a pretty good indicator of what to expect from their debut album which will be out later this year. Alex Gordon (from VASA) will be joining the Elk family on drums for their Mad Hatters and wider UK dates this year.
Algernon Doll + Garden of Elks at Mad Hatters Hootananny Inverness on Friday, July 18 is free entry.
See you there!
