16 new cases of coronavirus confirmed in Moray as total reaches 174

SIXTEEN new cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in Moray in the last week, taking the area's total since the outbreak began to 174.

This is a slight reduction on the 18 cases confirmed in last week's update. Since October 13, a total of 356 negative covid-19 tests have been returned by residents of Moray.

The area continues to have fewer cases of covid-19 than any other mainland area in Scotland.

Last week's monthly National Records of Scotland update also confirmed that the number of people to have died of coronavirus in Moray remains 21. Eight of those had covid-19 mentioned on their death certificate, with 13 having tested positive for the virus.

NHS Grampian – which includes Moray, Aberdeenshire and Aberdeen City – has now confirmed 3055 cases of coronavirus. That's an increase of 239 cases since last week's update, down on the increase of 331 which was recorded last week.

Moray neighbourhood update

The worst affected area of Moray in the last week is Findhorn, Kinloss and Pluscarden Valley – with six new cases of covid-19 confirmed in this 'neighbourhood area'.

Multiple cases have been confirmed in Forres and Elgin.

Active cases exist in the Cullen, Portknockie, Findochty, Drybridge and Berryhillock area and the Burghead, Roseisle and Laich area.

Scotland-wide update

Today's daily update shows 1739 people in Scotland have tested positive for coronavirus overnight, with 28 deaths of people who tested positive for the virus confirmed.

During the week ending October 21, 46,065 people were newly-tested with 8218 testing positive for the first time. That's up on the 7925 who tested positive in the week ending October 14, from 50,699 newly-tested.

Since the outbreak began, a total of 917,750 people in Scotland have been tested for covid-19, with 50,903 positive and 866,847 negative.

In the week ending October 18, 75 deaths were recorded where covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate. That's up on the 25 who died the week prior.

A total of 4376 people have now died across Scotland since the outbreak began. Of those, 2653 tested positive and died within 28 days.

A total of 73 people are in intensive care in relation to covid-19, with 873 in hospital.

In total, 5066 patients who have tested positive for covid-19 have been released from hospital since March 5.
