49 cases of coronavirus confirmed in the last week in Moray

FOURTY-NINE new cases of coronavirus have been confirmed within the last week in Moray, taking the area's total since the outbreak began to 1570.

This is an increase on the 37 cases confirmed in last week's update, and is level with the 49 confirmed two weeks ago.

With no further deaths recorded, the area's toll remains at 39.

Of the 39 people to have died coronavirus-related deaths in Moray, 10 have had the virus mentioned on their death certificate, while 29 tested positive for Covid-19 and passed away within 28 days.

The number of negative tests confirmed in Moray since April 20 is 447, which is slightly down on the 485 negative cases confirmed in last week's update.

NHS Grampian – which includes Moray, Aberdeenshire and Aberdeen City – has now confirmed 14,935 cases of coronavirus since the outbreak began. That's an increase of 102 on the 14,833 reported last week.

Moray, therefore, is currently accounting for almost half of NHS Grampian's Covid-19 cases, and currently has the fourth worst coronavirus rate per head of population in Scotland.

Moray neighbourhood update

Seven 'neighbourhood areas' in Moray confirmed at least three cases of coronavirus between April 19 and April 25.

Four of these areas are in Elgin, with the town having at least 17 confirmed cases (New Elgin East 6, Bishopmill East and Ladyhill 4, Bishopmill West and Newfield 4, New Elgin West 3).

Lossiemouth has four confirmed cases of the virus (all Lossiemouth West), while there are eight in Heldon West, Fogwatt to Inchberry and three in North Speyside.

Areas will only appear on the map if there are at least three cases of Covid-19.

Scotland-wide update

Today's daily update shows 204 people in Scotland have tested positive for coronavirus overnight, with the death of one person who tested positive for the virus confirmed.

During the week ending April 21, 21,323 people were newly-tested with 1545 testing positive for the first time. This is down from the 1318 who tested positive last week, despite a slight increase in tests from 20,344.

Since the outbreak began, 1,910,765 people in Scotland have been tested at least once, with 225,683 positive and 1,685,082 negative.

During the week ending April 25, 23 deaths were registered where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.

As of April 28, Scotland's death toll is 10,078. A total of 7654 people have died after testing positive for Covid-19.

A total of 12 people are in intensive care in relation to Covid-19, with 75 patients in hospital.

In total, 15,440 patients who have tested positive for Covid-19 have been released from hospital since March 5, 2020.
