ScotRail cancels six train services between Inverness and Elgin as signalling fault enters third day – with Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen rail services also at risk of delays and disruption
Train commuters between Inverness and Elgin are facing a third day of disruption because of a signalling fault.
ScotRail has cancelled six of tomorrow’s (Thursday, October 9) services between the Moray town and the Highland capital.
The rail operator is also warning services between Inverness and Aberdeen, Inverness and Glasgow, and Inverness and Edinburgh could also be affected by delays or cancellations due to the fault.
Issues were first encountered late on Tuesday evening with a power issue affecting Network Rail’s signalling centre.
The affected services on Thursday are:

11:44 Inverness to Elgin due 12:30
12:36 Elgin to Inverness due 13:20
13:30 Inverness to Elgin due 14:15
14:25 Elgin to Inverness due 15:10
A ScotRail spokesman said: “Because of a fault with the signalling system earlier today at Inverness disruption is expected until the end of the day tomorrow (Thursday, October 9).
“Train services between Inverness and Aberdeen are returning to normal but some services may still be cancelled, delayed or revised.
“We are experiencing issues with the signalling system in the Inverness area.
“Services between Queen St and Inverness, between Edinburgh and Inverness and between Aberdeen and Inverness are currently running as scheduled, but may be subject to delay, alteration and cancellation.
“Services between Inverness and Elgin and between Aberdeen and Inverurie will be subject to cancellation.
“We have Ticket Acceptance in place with Stagecoach North buses between Inverness and Aberdeen
Just show your valid ticket or Smart card to the driver when boarding the bus.
