An unconscious man was repeatedly kicked and had his head stamped on after spending an evening drinking with his attacker.

Lying motionless on the floor, Liam Hunter sustained swelling and bruising to his face and head following the brutal beating in Hossack Drive, Elgin inflicted by 24 year old Scott Ironside who shouted: “‘touch my f****** dog and I will kill you.”

Shocking footage of the assault filmed by party host Andrew Clark on December 7, 2023 was shown at Inverness Sheriff Court, bringing gasps from people who were sitting in the public gallery.

Fiscal depute Susan Love also narrated details of the savage attack and how the violent incident came to light.

She said that police had gone to interview Mr Clark on an unrelated matter when he suddenly said “look at this video of Liam Hunter getting a doing last night”.

When Mr Hunter was interviewed by police, he explained he had been drinking but that he had blacked out from intoxication.

Ms Love said: "When he woke up on December 8, his face was sore and tender.

“He left the property, felt woozy and ultimately attended Dr Gray’s Hospital the same day.”

Mr Hunter underwent a CT scan of his head which showed no bleeds, and an X-ray was unsuccessful as his face was too swollen to see what the injuries were.

“He stated he had pain coming from the back of his head across to the front and down his cheek to his jaw,” said Ms Love.

“He couldn’t eat very well. Mr Hunter had significant swelling and bruising to his face and head.”

Ironside, of Bedford Road, Aberdeen, admitted assault to severe injury and Sheriff Eilidh Macdonald refused a plea for bail and remanded him in custody.

Sentencing was deferred until February 17 for a background report and restriction of liberty order assessment.
