A GROUP which provides social opportunities for adults with autism is urgently seeking new office bearers.

Make Autism Visible (MAV) in Moray runs a successful Book Club and Women's Group, but numbers are too low for the viability of its other initiatives – from a lunch club and cinema group to sessions for music lovers and walkers.

Autism affects around 1 in 20 in Scotland with common issues being difficulties in communication, building relationships, and building support networks.

Run by adults with autism, MAV was established to bring together people with similar experiences.

Secretary Anne Pendery said: "The Book Club and Women’s Group have gone from strength to strength and have survived the COVID lockdown by going online via Zoom.

"The other groups have had to be put on hold."

MAV is holding its Annual meeting at 6pm on October 7, online, and the board hopes that others, both with and without autism, will attend and be willing to take an active role in its running.

A chairperson is urgently needed along with a fundraiser and others willing to take on the running of some of the groups.

In a statement, the group said: "MAV calls out to all adults with autism or with an interest in autism to join them at the AGM and help MAV continue to develop in Moray and provide support that is desperately needed."

Anyone wishing to attend should contact makeautismvisible@yahoo.com for further details.
