Attempting to take Hector’s crown on the night will be Joe Aitken from Kirriemuir, Ellie Beaton from Rothienorman, Shona Donaldson from Tarland, Doug Hay from Whitehills and Allan Taylor from Alford.

Compère for the evening will be retired newspaper editor and Elgin Rotary Club member Ken Smith, while the judges will be experienced singers and musicians Pete Shepheard and Jimmy Hutchison.

As well as the balladeers themselves, there will also be an appearance from guest artistes Charlie McKerron and Marc Clement, who will work their musical magic on the fiddle and guitar.

Tickets (priced at £12 for upstairs and £11 for downstairs) can either be bought from Elgin Library in the town’s Cooper Park or by phoning 01343 562603.
