THE BBC has said the Scottish National Party has a 99 per cent chance of winning Moray from the Conservatives.

Polls shut at 10pm tonight and the exit poll, which predicted a huge Conservative majority UK-wide, has the SNP winning 55 of Scotland's 59 seats.

One of those, according to the BBC, will see the SNP's Laura Mitchell take Moray from the Conservatives' Douglas Ross.

That would require Ms Mitchell to overturn a majority of 8.7 per cent to Mr Ross, who defeated Angus Robertson by 22,637 votes to 18,478 in 2017.

Labour, the Liberal Democrats and UKIP are also in the running – with the former two polling a little over five per cent and UKIP's vote difficult to gauge at present.

Counting is currently ongoing at all Elgin Town Hall, with a declaration expected at around 3.30am.
