LEGENDARY Scottish singer-songwriter Barbara Dickson "cannot wait" to get back to performing with an intimate gig at Gordon Castle this autumn.

In a special performance Barbara and her pianist, Nick Holland, will explore her back catalogue of songs, performing a range of material drawing on her folk roots, contemporary greats and classic hits.

The best-selling artist is excited about the gig, which will be held in Gordon Castle's Tower Hall space, after the pandemic forced a break from live performing.

The singer said: "I am so looking forward to playing at Gordon Castle as it will be the very first of my autumn dates and a welcome return to playing live.

"I really cannot wait. And a castle too – how thrilling!"

Emerging from the Scottish folk scene of the late 1960s, Barbara enjoyed mainstream chart success with hits including "Answer Me", "Another Suitcase in Another Hall", "Caravan" and the million-selling number one single, "I Know Him So Well".

Scotland’s best-selling female album artist, Barbara has earned six platinum, 11 gold and seven silver albums and cemented her status as one of the UK’s best-loved performers.

Her stage career included the roles of the original Mrs Johnstone in Willy Russell’s long-running musical, "Blood Brothers" and as Viv Nicholson in "Spend Spend Spend", both of which have won her an Olivier award for Best Actress.

Barbara was awarded an OBE in the 2002 New Year’s Honours for her services to music and drama.

Nick joined Barbara’s touring band in the mid 2000s playing keyboards and adding vocals on her "Full Circle" album, the first to feature the style of music she now performs.

Barbara and Nick work as a duo where she plays guitar and piano, and Nick on keyboards adding harmonies to Barbara’s vocals. They have performed this way in numerous venues including cathedrals, festivals and theatres, developing an intimate rapport with each other and the audience.

Barbara added: "It’s a different experience to working with the bigger band but just as enjoyable and gives the music breathing space."

The gig has been organised by Forte Productions in association with Pentland Land Rover Elgin.

Tickets for the concert, at 7.30pm on Wednesday, October 6, are on sale now, costing £28 plus booking fee, from www.forteproductions.co.uk.
