Moray Courts: Repeat drink driver banned for three years
A repeat drink driver has been banned from the roads for three years.
Kevin Barron was stopped by a police patrol during the course of September 22 due to the way he was driving along Barhill Road in Buckie.
Speaking at Elgin Sheriff Court, fiscal depute Shamiela Ghafar said: “The accused appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. There was a smell of it coming from his breath.
“A roadside test was administered which was positive.”
Barron, who’s aged 62, later went on to fail an official blood test which was carried out later at the police station.
This gave a reading of 118 micrograms of alcohol for a 100 millilitres of blood, in comparison to the drink drive limit of just 50.
Defence solicitor Matthew O’Neill stated that his client’s actions had been “beyond foolish” and had already resulted in him losing his job.
The lawyer added: “Alcohol is something he has struggled with for his whole adult life.”
Mr O’Neill stated, however, that the incident had led Barron to begin attending AA meetings again.
The defendant, whose home address was given in court papers as Whinhill Road, Banff, was disqualified for three years.
He was also ordered to carry out 135 hours of unpaid work for the community.
