JAZZ fans can expect a high-energy, feel-good gig when musicians assemble for a big band night in Elgin this month.

Moray Jazz Club will present Mario Jannetta's Big Band Night on Thursday, November 21, at Elgin City Football Social Club.

The band of 17 mainly north-east musicians formed in 1982 after a few of the members were involved in providing music for the Rothes pantomime. They went on to play many venues around the north-east.

In the 1990s the band performed with Kenny Baker and Don Lusher for Inverness Jazz Society.

As the years have rolled by the make-up of the group has shifted. However, eight of the group members have played with the band for more than 20 years – travelling from Inverness, Peterhead, Huntly, Keith, Cullen, Buckie and Elgin to meet.

The big band now performs mainly for charity events. It is made up of five saxophones, four trumpets, two trombones, drums, bass, guitar and piano, with Kenny MacDonald on vocals.

Tickets cost £10, or £8 for Moray Jazz Club members, and are available from morayjazzclub@gmail.com or from Sound and Vision, on South Street.
