MacMoray Festival organiser Andy Macdonald has ‘big people’ looking to take over event
The organiser of Elgin’s biggest festival has said he has “big people” looking to take it over.
Andy Macdonald, who runs MacMoray Festival, announced earlier this year that 2025’s Easter event would be the festival’s final hurrah.
However, he has since been overwhelmed with requests from people looking to take it on - either with or without his help.
Andy said: “I have had big people that want to buy the branding, that want to take over MacMoray or want me to hand it to them and have me as an advisor.
“I have so many options that it’s ridiculous, but I really don’t know what to do.
“My head is mangled. I can’t see past next month. I don’t have the answers and I wish I did.”
Andy suffered heartbreak when his pregnant girlfriend passed away shortly after the very first MacMoray.
His current partner Angela is expected to give birth in the middle of September, with Andy looking to focus all his time and energy into his new-born daughter.
Then, at the start of 2025, when he is hopefully refreshed, he will assess the situation with MacMoray and its future.
He added: “I am tired as hell from it all. I do love the buzz, but it comes at a cost. It’s not easy to do.
“I’m going to chill the hell out the rest of the year and then plan the future. Whatever that is. I have no idea - I’m blagging it!
“I’m really proud of what me and the team have achieved, of course I am, it’s been class. The crowds are nuts.”
This year’s MacMoray Summer Special was the fourth run by Andy and his team.
He has consistently promised to make them “bigger and better” and believes he has achieved that feat.
He added:“What I have been able to do is book ridiculously big names and they are getting bigger and bigger and bigger.
“I know who the people want and I will get them. It’s a great accomplishment, but it’s hard and I’m knackered.”
