A CELEBRATION of British grown cut flowers attracted more than 250 enthusiasts to one of the country's oldest and largest walled gardens at the weekend.

Gordon Castle, at Fochabers, held a Big Flower Weekend as part of a national campaign to promote locally grown cut flowers.

The team was joined by five florists – Wild Blossom, Stephen Seedhouse, Fran Duncan, Harbour Blooms and Blossoms of Lossiemouth – who each did a different display in the garden.

Owner Zara Gordon Lennox led visitors on a tour focusing on the large flower beds, which include more than 60 varieties, and those in attendance were also offered the chance to pick their own bunch of sweet peas.

She said: "Despite the gusty wind and occasional shower, it was fantastic to see how many people were interested in Scottish grown flowers and to be able to show them our four colour-themed beds, the story of our restoration and how the florists used our flowers in so many different ways. A big thank you to all the florists who took part.”

Thanks to the success of the event, the team plans to run the Big Flower Weekend again next year.
