Boost for Moray dental services as Lossie Dental Practice eyes expansion

A Moray dental practice is hoping to expand the range of services it can offer by relocating to a larger premises.

Lossie Dental Practice is seeking to make alterations to the first floor of a building on 56 High Street in the seaside town, currently used as a dance studio, to transform it into a new practice.

The existing dental surgery, located on Clifton Road, is leased and cannot be expanded as it is surrounded by domestic properties.

However, a feasibility study undertaken by Wittets Architects identified 56 High Street as an appropriate space for relocation.

The entire site is a mixed use development with a fitness centre and beauty parlour currently occupying the adjoining units.

Planning documents add: “The first floor is to be changed to a dental surgery and the ground floor will become a separate unit retained as it’s current use or a use under class 10 and leased out.

“As the unit is smaller than the existing first and second floor unit it may be more attractive to small businesses.

“The entrance, stair and toilets will be shared.”

The site has on-street parking outside the building for customers and staff.

It will accommodate approximately 12 patients and 10 dental staff.

Mike Brown, director of dentistry for NHS Grampian, said: "It is very encouraging to see another long standing committed practice choosing to expand in the Moray area.

“This will provide further valuable registration opportunities and I'm sure will be warmly welcomed by the local community who have struggled with a lack of access for some time."

Lossie Dental Practice’s plans for expansion come after it was announced earlier this year that a brand new practice would open in the region.

The new practice – 8to8 dental – is expected to open later in the year.

Planning permission is currently being sought to operate in Elgin from a new property that has been built on Lossiemouth Road.
