Burghead Coastguard and Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance help take teen to Royal Aberdeen Children's Hospital after Burghead Bay biking accident
A teenage boy was rescued by the Coastguard and flown to hospital after injuring his leg in a mountain biking accident near a beach.
Emergency service crews, including Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance, were called after the teen hurt himself in the incident near Burghead Bay.
Due to the remote location, the Coastguard were required to ferry the teenager from the scene to the waiting air ambulance, which had landed at playing fields on the edge of Roseisle Forest on Sunday, August 11.
A Scottish Charity Air Ambulance spokesperson said: “We attended and airlifted a teenage boy with leg injuries to Royal Aberdeen Children's Hospital, Aberdeen, following an accident with his mountain bike.
“The Coastguard ferried the youngster from the coastal accident scene to the waiting helicopter which was able to land nearby.”
An air ambulance, two Coastguard vehicles and an ambulance were at the scene.
At the time, a HM Coastguard spokesperson said: “We received a report of a casualty in need of assistance at Burghead Bay.
“Burghead Coastguard Rescue Team (CRT) was tasked to remove the casualty from the location and put them into the care of an air ambulance helicopter.”
