Moray event – Brother’s passing brings added emotion for long-time cancer fundraiser
This year’s Strawberry Tea event near Keith is going to be extra-meaningful for its main organiser.
Trisha Davidson is about to host the annual cancer fundraiser for the 16th time at her family’s farmhouse on the outskirts of town. However, during the past 12 months, Trisha has lost her older brother, Neil Law, to the condition.
Neil, who was aged only 60 and worked at Glenfiddich, was actually diagnosed with cancer just as last year’s event was about to take place.
Trisha said: “When it’s someone so close it really brings it home to you. It made last year’s event really quite hard, but up until then we’d been lucky as a family. Most families are hit by cancer at some point.”
Over the years Trisha’s Strawberry Teas, which she lays on with the energetic assistance of 18 helpers, have succeeded in raising more than £112,000 for the Breast Cancer Now charity.
This time around, in recognition of the wonderful care that Neil got towards the end of his life, the money will be split with Friends of Roxburghe House, the support group for the hospice in Aberdeen.
Strawberry teas will be available this coming Saturday and Sunday either for collection from Netherton Farm, or for home deliveries within the Keith area.
Place an order by this Thursday at the latest, either by ringing 07920 512501 or going to the Facebook site, Trisha’s Strawberry Tea for Breast Cancer Now.
Added to that, the following weekend will see teas served in a marquee at the farm from 10am until 4pm.
All the usual stalls, raffles and bakes will be on offer.
