A "brilliant community effort" is being repeated this weekend in ongoing efforts to keep Buckie looking neat and tidy.

Queens Men from 1st Buckie Boys Brigade will be out in force again on Saturday with local bed and breakfast owners Giffie Leslie and Robert Dawson.

They will be doing a tidy up of the Victoria Bridge and Queen Street areas.

That follows a similar effort two weekends ago - which also involved Buckie Rotary - at the main roundabout on the High Street entrance to the town and the Linzee Gordon Park.

With the cancellation of community events because of coronavirus, the senior BB members have been unable to get involved in their normal community work which would count towards their Queen's Badges.

Officer in charge Alan McIntosh enlisted the help of Giffie and Robert, who run Struan House in the centre of town, who have been carrying out their own personal tidy-ups around the town during lockdown.

Mr McIntosh said: "I thought there was an opportunity to do something for Buckie. I contacted Andrew Murray at Buckie Rotary and they got involved too.

"We had eight Queen's men and about 25 people in total involved and it was co-ordinated by Giffie and Robert.

"It was a brilliant community effort and the boys were a credit to themselves. They all gave 100 per cent."

Mr McIntosh hopes the clean-ups can become a regular event.

Mr Dawson said he welcomed the involvement of the BBs and Rotary.

"The more hands the better. We did the Tesco roundabout and the Linzee Gordon park, which was a hell of a mess with weeds.

"We started off painting our own shed in lockdown and then cleared the High Street and also did the tubs in the square.

"We are not able to get out and about as much now with the B&B business picking up again after lockdown. We had our first Speyside Way walker the other day from Germany."

Mr Dawson urged people in the town to get involved in the effort to tidy up areas of the town.

Heather Pirie, president of Buckie Rotary, added: "We are looking to work with the BBs and Robert and Giffie to keep things looking better in the town and because the clean-ups are outside it is easier to keep people spaced out. We try to do our bit to keep community spirit up."
