Buckie set to commemorate D-Day sacrifices at special service

BUCKIE is set to commemorate the sacrifices made during D-Day at a special service this Saturday morning.

On June 6 1944, almost 133,000 troops from the USA, the British Commonwealth and other Allied countries stormed the beaches at Normandy, an operation which was to spell the end of Hitler’s Nazi regime and liberate Europe.

In what as the largest military amphibious invasion ever conducted, it would claim the lives of over 4400 Allied military personnel.

To mark the occasion, the Buckie branch of the Royal British Legion have organised a short service to be held at the war memorial in Cluny Square at 12 noon, during which wreaths will be laid to commemorate all those who gave their lives.
