The group of local volunteers are focused on renovating and upgrading the hall to provide a facility which all the community can use and be proud of.

They received the award after being shortlisted by the convenience retailer as one of three causes and charities in the North of Scotland to receive financial support. A care project in Drumnadrochit and a cancer support group in Dundee were the other award recipients.

Sheila Downie, chair of the North Regional Committee of Scotmid, said: "The pandemic has created numerous challenges for communities to overcome and adapt to.

"Community Connect is one of the main ways we can support the communities that we serve and we are delighted to provide Burghead Community Hall with funding as it continues to provide vital support to the community."
