THEY haven’t been able to make their voices heard in public for nearly two years, but the Cantare ladies choir is still making a massive difference to people’s lives.

The choir have been unable to host any of their fundraising concerts since the first lockdown in March 2020.

And they are resigned to being unable to sing together again until well into 2022.

However, the 100-strong choir has remained strong and their donation to the Moray and Grampian Christmas Toy and Food appeal was literally music to the ears of the organisers.

Every Christmas for a number of years the ladies have backed the appeal run by The Northern Scot in association with Moray Council and the St Giles Centre. Other partners this year include Tesco Elgin, Asda Elgin, Dr Gray’s Hospital, Associated Seafoods and Elgin BID, as well as a number of collection points across the area.

Last week Chris Saunderson, one of the content editors for The Scot, went along to collect a bumper bundle of goodies for the appeal.

Jane Ferguson, choir founder and leader, said: “It’s a shame we haven’t been able to come together to sing but we still wanted to support this Christmas appeal.”

The generosity of Cantare and everyone else who has supported our appeal so far, will make a huge difference to the lives of so many young children, teenagers and old people this Christmas.

Last year it supported more than 300 people who might otherwise have had a bleaker Christmas due to Covid and other factors.

Today (Friday) is the last day to make donations, so that they can be wrapped and delivered in time for Christmas. The Northern Scot is hosting a thank you and last minute donation event at the St Giles Shopping Centre today from 10am to 2pm. Enjoy a mince pie, glass of mulled wine and chocolates for the children.
