Elgin house fire sees firefighters treat two cats after extinguishing blaze





Firefighters intervened to treat two cats for smoke inhalation after a house fire this afternoon.

Three fire appliances alongside police were called to the Sandy Road area of Elgin just before 1pm after reports of a fire.

Crews extinguished the blaze and there were no reported casualties.

However, firefighters were forced to use a set of oxygen masks designed for animals to treat two cats.

The road was closed temporarily but has since reopened after the area was made safe.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 12.50pm on Wednesday November 13, to reports of a dwelling fire on Sandy Road, Elgin.

“Three fire appliances were mobilised to the scene where crews extinguished a fire affecting the living room window.

“There were no reported casualties. Two cats suffering from smoke inhalation were treated by firefighters using Smokey Paws kit.

“Crews left the scene at 2.32pm after ensuring the area was made safe.”
