Moray's over 55s offered free tai chi taster session
OVER 55s in Moray will have the chance to try tai chi for free this week in Elgin.
Originating in China as a martial art, tai chi combines deep breathing with gentle, flowing movements which create a state of calm and centredness which are said to promote wellbeing.
Local instructor, Caroline van der Heiden, will guide participants through a session of gentle physical exercises and stretches to connect the mind and body.
Each posture will flow into the next without pause, ensuring that the body is in constant motion.
The class can be done seated or standing, and there will be breathing exercises for relaxation at the end.
Comfortable clothes and soft shoes are recommended while refreshments will be provided after the class.
The session is part of the First Time for Everything Programme designed by the Royal Voluntary Service and supported by the People's Postcode Lottery.
Laura Chow, Head of Charities, People’s Postcode Lottery, said: “It’s never too late to try something new and to have fun trying. First Time for Everything activities are a safe, gentle and enjoyable way to be active and social, which are vital to our health and wellbeing.
"Thanks to players of People’s Postcode Lottery, local people will be able to enjoy a wide range of interesting activities this year.”
The class will take place at the New Elgin and Ashcroft Public Hall on March 8 at 10.30am.
