Over the last few months we have seen a new range of heroes step up to the mark in communities across Moray and Banffshire as we all come to terms with the coronavirus lockdown.

From key workers playing vital roles including in the care sector and health service to volunteers shopping and picking up medicines for those shielding and self-isolating, these heroes come in all sorts of guises.

Here at Highland News and Media, we wanted to give these people a chance to be part of the 2020 Moray and Banffshire Heroes awards, which have been postponed due to the pandemic.

The ceremony is now scheduled to take place on Thursday, September 3, at the Mansefield Hotel in Elgin.

We have decided to reopen nominations for the annual awards, which were first launched in association with Inverness Airport last year, and give more people the chance to be recognised for their fabulous efforts in their street, village, town or region.

Readers can nominate individuals in the following categories:

  • Primary pupil of the year
  • Secondary pupil of the year
  • Primary teacher of the year
  • Secondary teacher of the year
  • Carer of the year
  • Fundraiser of the year
  • Volunteer of the year
  • Community champion of the year
  • Brave child of the year
  • Health professional of the year
  • Emergency services or armed forces hero of the year
  • Public servant of the year

There will also be an award for the ‘Hero of heroes’, which will be decided by the judging panel on the night.

Or, you can email your nominations, giving all the required details, to morayheroes@hnmedia.co.uk

Readers can also nominate their Heroes online at www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/MorayHeroes20

Nominations will close on Saturday, June 6, at midnight.

After that, our judging panel will draw up a shortlist from each category which will be published in a special supplement later in the summer.

Readers will then be able to vote for their choice in each of the categories, with the winners announced at the awards ceremony.
