A SERIES of free workshops have been launched offering people the chance to work with some of the north-east's best-loved traditional musicians – including fiddlers Charlie McKerron of Capercaillie and Tarland’s Paul Anderson.

The Dee and Don Ceilidh Collective, a charity based in Aberdeenshire, launched its "Our Living Rivers and Glens" project in May.

They encouraged participants to explore their local landscape and collect their responses in word, sound, video and images.

These impressions were then uploaded onto an online map.

Composers drew inspiration from the map to create new music and have met with participants through online Zoom workshops which has allowed them to be involved in the creative process.

People are now being encouraged to sign up for workshops to learn the specially composed music and song.

Experienced tutors Averil Blackhall, Grace Banks, Pete MacCallum and Carola MacCallum will also be involved in the Zoom workshops, teaching the new tunes on a range of instruments including fiddle, guitar, voice and clarsach.

The workshops, suitable for all ages and levels of ability, begin on October 25 and run through until mid-November.
