Changes proposed to keep public cash in Moray

Companies may have to start providing information about any sub-contractors they use to carry out work for Moray Council.

The council is considering asking for the additional information so that, for the first time, it can accurately record public spending with local businesses.

The issue of changing the procurement policy will be put before elected members at a meeting this coming Tuesday.

Chris Muir, the local authority's senior officer for economic strategy and development, has stated that increasing the amount of public cash spent locally is a main feature of the Moray Economic Partnership economic recovery plan, which was introduced to combat the impact of the pandemic.

In a report to the upcoming meeting on Tuesday of the corporate committee, he writes: "Increasing local procurement spend is a vital mechanism through which the council can support the local economic recovery.

"Making the proposed amendments to the way in which information is captured from suppliers, through the council procurement process, will provide essential data which will inform and support delivery of the economic recovery plan."
