THE power of music will help to provide a Moray family with a happier Christmas than they expected after a devastating fire destroyed their home.

Elizabeth Wood's family lost everything when their property above the Beach Bar in Lossiemouth went up in flames at the end of September.

Since then, the community has rallied round to offer support to Elizabeth and her two sons Luke (20) and Owen (14).

A concert has been organised with three bands taking to the stage next month to help raise money to help the family have a good Christmas.

Elizabeth was in Egypt when the fire took hold of the bar and thanked neighbours for looking out for her sons. She said: "Owen was staying with his dad at the time but Luke was still in the house.

"It is a very weird time right now because we don't have the best of living conditions but Luke is OK and that is the most important thing.

"I don't think a thank you is enough for Angela Theobold who spotted the fire and for her husband Chris' insistence in knocking on the door to wake up Luke as he is a deep sleeper.

"If it wasn't for them it would have been a whole different situation."

When Elizabeth returned from Egypt there was nothing salvageable from her home.

The 46-year-old added: "I loved living there – waking up and going for a walk on the beach and there was always plenty people to say hi to. It is really humbling the amount people who have helped, there have been people I know and even some I don't.

"There were people donating clothes, a women gave me some make-up and my friend donated a bobble hat because she knows how much I like them. With the concert and the community coming together, it is really heart-warming."

Elizabeth, a support worker for Cornerstone, is hoping to move into a new property soon.

Organising the concert is family friend Robbie Conti.

He is a guitarist for band ACT2 who will take to the stage alongside Bedhead and 2FN BADD for an evening of rock and pop.

He said: "I actually live 15 minutes away from the beach bar, so it really hit home that it could have been us.

"We were away at the time as well, so it could have been us coming home to have everything destroyed."

For Robbie he said the inspiration for the concert just popped into his head.

The 64-year-old added: "The beach bar used to have a lot of live music and it was quite a sad feeling that wasn't going to happen any more so we thought the best thing to do was to was to play.

"My wife Fiona is friends with Elizabeth and I couldn't imagine losing everything so we are just hoping to raise money for them to have a nice Christmas."

The concert will be held at the The Comrades Community and Veterans Social Club CIC in Lossiemouth on November 10 from 7pm. Tickets are £12 and are available from GladiatorFit on High Street or can be reserved by phone on 01343 813189.
