MORAY voters will have the option of voting for five political parties when they go to the polls on December 12.

Conservative Douglas Ross is defending his seat, with Laura Mitchell of the Scottish National Party likely to be involved in a close contest with the incumbent.

Labour's Jo Kirby, who received 10.9 per cent of the vote in 2017, is standing again, while the Liberal Democrat candidate is Fiona Campbell-Trevor.

After the announcement of the candidates at 4pm this afternoon, it is now clear that UKIP, who never stood in 2017, will also contest the seat.

Rob Scorer, who got 3.9 per cent of the vote in 2015, is the party's candidate once again.

The Greens will not stand a candidate – with the SNP's Laura Mitchell having already thanked some Green supporters for pledging to support her.

In line with UK policy, the Brexit Party will not stand a candidate as Moray is currently held by the Conservatives.

However, their supporters now have a second pro-Brexit party to vote for in Moray and could switch to UKIP instead of the Tories.
