Mr Eagle, who formerly served as one of the town’s three councillors, has served as an MSP since February 2024 and is currently a member of the Scottish Conservative shadow cabinet.

Following his selection at a general meeting of the Moray Conservative Association held in Elgin, he said: “It is a huge honour to have been chosen by local members to be their standard bearer in next year’s election.

“If I am fortunate enough to be elected my focus will be on delivering tangible benefits for people here in Moray.

“That means a better health service and a fully functioning general hospital at Dr Gray’s. What we have now just isn’t good enough despite the heroic efforts of NHS staff.

“The dangerous A96 simply has to be dualled. No more excuses and broken promises from the SNP.

“And I will work with Moray Council to argue for a fairer deal from Holyrood, so that we can better resource our schools and social care provision.

“Moray is a marvellous place to live and bring up your family which is what I have done. It has a wonderful community ethos and people look out for each other. But let’s make it even better by addressing these challenges which have been ignored for far too long.”

Welcoming Mr Eagle’s selection, the Chair of the Moray Conservative Association, Craig Stewart-Toner, added: "I'm delighted that members have selected Tim as our candidate for the 2026 Scottish Elections.

“Having only been an MSP for a little over a year, Tim has already made his mark in Holyrood with a reputation for fiercely standing up for his constituents and holding the Scottish Government's feet to the fire.

“We're excited to be getting our campaign underway with a fantastic candidate and look forward to meeting as many Moravians as possible in the lead up to the election."

Mr Eagle was elected as a list MSP last year and last October was appointed Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs, Land Reform and Fishing by Scottish Conservative leader, Russell Findlay.

He runs a small sheep farm, has worked as a land agent and has also served as a police officer in the Highlands.

Mr Eagle was the Scottish Conservative candidate for Moray in 2021 when he achieved the best-ever Conservative result with 40.9 per cent of the vote
