Teenagers from Elgin's Youth Café have marked the start of the Olympics by creating some special Japanese dishes.

A dozen youngsters took part in an open-air cooking session in Cooper Park.

On the menu was a special chicken and vegetable dish with Teriyaki sauce, noodles, peppers and cabbage which, together, contained the colours of the Olympic rings.

In addition, they also prepared a special Japanese dessert supplied to them by celebrated Lhanbryde food writer Liz Ashworth.

Called Toban Yaki, it's fruit – such as mangoes and papaya – which are then poached in a Japanese ceramic pot (a toban), before being covered with a fresh strawberry sauce.

Youth worker Donna Breen said: "Young people love cooking.

"They really enjoy the social side of it.

"And, of course, it's a really useful skill to learn."
