THE pavilion at Cooper Park in Elgin has been tarnished by racist graffiti less than a year after being redecorated by local students.
In summer, the exterior of the building was painted by members of Moray College UHI's Future Focus class, who were working towards a SQA Personal Development Award. The group redecorated the inside last January.
But the building, which overlooks the pond at Elgin's biggest park, has now been defaced by vandals, who have spray-painted swastikas and offensive slurs on the doors and walls.
This follows an incident last year, where swastikas were spray-painted on the outside of Elgin's Mosque.
The graffiti was discovered today at noon and has been reported to the police, who say they are looking into the incident.
The passer-by who noticed the vandalism said: "The pavilion was looking quite clean and fairly fresh (having just been repainted).
"It's not good to see anywhere, especially if kids will be walking by. If a kid has done this without thinking then hopefully they will realise the seriousness of what they have done."
Elgin Cricket Club currently lease the pavillion, which is also used by Jog Scotland, Park Run, Active Schools, Elgin Youth Cafe and Moray Road Runners.
