THE Covid-19 pandemic claimed its latest event victim with the announcement that Portgordon fireworks would not be taking place this year.
The event, which normally takes place at the end of October, has become a major attraction over the last quarter of a century and a major event on the local calendar.
However, the ongoing pandemic has led to the volunteer-run committee with little alternative but to pull the plug on this year's extravaganza.
Committee chairman Kenny Gunn said: "With regret we have to announce that our event will not go ahead this year due to the current pandemic conditions.
"The decision was taken by the committee with a heavy heart but the safety of our spectators and helpers come first. "It has been a tough last few months but we have been delighted to support the village by assisting the village covid group through donations and committee members who have given their time to deliver food parcels.
"Planning for this year's event was well on its way with a lot of the applications for licenses and permissions for our event already done by our friend and committee member Adam [Robertson] who sadly passed away earlier this year. We would like to thank Jo Larsen from Moray Council for her help and advice.
"We would also thank our supporters for their understanding and hope they continue to support us going forward."
