Moray Council closes Drumin Bridge in Glenlivet for a year over ‘public safety’ fears
A bridge has been closed for a full year by a local council over “safety concerns”.
Moray Council has barred traffic from crossing the Drumin Bridge, near the Glenlivet Medical Practice, until September 1, 2025.
The bridge is on the C60H Downan to Drum road and spans the River Livet by the ruined Drumin Castle.
Announcing the 52-week closure, which began on September 3, the council said “safety concerns” over the bridge had developed.
As a result, a council spokesperson added, the decision to shut the bridge was made “in the interests of public safety”.
During the closure, a 1.3 mile diversion will be in place.
Rather than crossing the bridge, traffic will instead have to stay on the main B9008 and B9136 roads and cross the Livet Bridge.
The Drumin Bridge reopened to traffic just three months ago, in May, after a previous six-month closure also sparked by “safety concerns”.
According to roads website Sabre, the concrete structure could be up to 70 years old.
The website also claims a bridge has crossed the river at the site for more than 100 years.
