MORAY Council volunteers are to receive lapel badges in recognition of their contribution to the area.

A £400 grant to cover the costs of the 360 metal pins was this morning agreed by the authority’s Policy and Resources committee.

Convener George McIntyre will present the badges to volunteers on June 7 at an event held at Elgin Town Hall, run in partnership with The Volunteer Centre Moray and other local community groups.

It is taking place as part of the UK-wide Volunteer Week - which recognises the work of volunteers and encourages others to give it a try.

Council volunteers help out in areas such as schools, libraries, youth work, adult literacy, care and environmental activity.
