Moray dad of seven credits UHI Moray course for making him a ‘better person’ after graduating with Masters degree

A father of seven has credited his UHI Moray course for making him a “better person” after graduating on Friday.

Lossiemouth resident Jason Bray (39) started at UHI Moray in 2016 initially on the NC5 Social Sciences course.

He progressed year on year from NC5 to NC6 and HNC before embarking on his undergraduate degree in 2019.

In 2022 he transferred to Perth but chose to graduate in Elgin after years of tireless work culminated in him achieving a Masters in Applied Social Sciences.

Jason admits, however, that he was in a “downward part” of his life when he started college but that doing so offered the change he needed.

He said: “I decided to come to college, originally interested in the psychology aspect of the social sciences.

“But then I took on to sociology and the criminology aspects and it just allowed me to rise from the ashes like a phoenix and get on the right track again.

“Life just changed.

“I have lots of kids. Seven kids now.

“I've got married and I'm just a better person.

“And that's what the course and the lectures and the college has done for me.

“It feels good, absolutely terrific. It feels a bit legendary in some respect.”

Having started on a level five course, Jason says he was inspired by a doctor named Suki Haider to continue his studies in pursuit of a PhD.

“I’ve gone back to college to do HNC counselling now as well,” Jason added.

“So the journey’s not over for me.

“I've kind of gone back and started a new journey in a different department."
