IT will soon be time to get out the brushes and easel as the Cullen Community Paint Out draws near.

Organised by Cullen Art Group, the annual event is set to return on Saturday, June 22.

Once again artists of all abilities are extended a warm invitation to come along and capture some of the beautiful and varied scenes in and around the town.

It is intended to be a fun and enjoyable event so there will be no judging or winners.

Last year saw the event take on an international flavour when a couple on holiday from Washington State, USA, came along.

Registration will take place between 9am and 10am at Cullen Harbour next to the toilets, with painting time itself running from 9am through to 3pm. Registration costs £2 for adults and is free for under-16s. Artists may use as much or as little of the allotted painting time as they wish.

After painting time finishes at 3pm, all paintings - with the artist’s name written and, if under 16, age, on the back of each one - should be handed in at the community centre where there will be the chance to enjoy a cuppa, a biscuit and a chat.

The art group have compiled a list of suggested items artists may wish to bring along with them to the event: Your painting materials (any medium); A container for water for your brushes (and a bottle of water to top up?); A board to rest on; A chair/folding table/easel; A packed lunch; Sunscreen/umbrella.

Making a welcome return to the event is Wendy Hay, who has a BA in Fine Art and teaches Art at Speyside High School. She will be circulating round the participants during the event along with John Rose, one of the art group’s very experienced members, and both will be on hand to answer any questions artists might have or give any painting assistance requested.

If the weather forecast is very bad the Cullen Community Paint Out will be cancelled the day before. Should the forecast point to changeable weather the event will proceed and people can decide for themselves whether to attend or not.

The paintings will be displayed at the group's annual art exhibition on August 2-4 at the community centre.
