Elgin City South by-election registration and postal vote reminder issued by Moray Council
Voters are being reminded of upcoming deadlines ahead of an election.
Individuals across Elgin City South will head to the polls on Thursday, November 7, to vote in a by-election that was triggered by Graham Leadbitter (SNP) becoming MP for Moray West, Nairn and Strathspey.
Voters must register for a postal vote by 5pm on October 23 via the Electoral Registration Officer. Residents who are not registered to vote at all have until midnight on October 22 to do so.
Four candidates – representing the SNP, Labour, Tories and Lib Dems - have been nominated to represent the Elgin City South:
Moray Liberal Democrat leader Neil Alexander was nominated to stand as his party’s candidate. Earlier this year, Neil stood as a candidate for Moray West, Nairn and Strathspey in the UK General Election.
Former college lecturer Catriona McBain will represent Labour, whilst mum-of -seven Elaine Kirby is the Conservatives’ candidate.
Longstanding SNP campaigner Laura Mitchell will represent the party. Previously, Laura stood for the SNP in the 2019 General Election – where she was defeated by Conservative Douglas Ross.
Polling stations are open from 7am until 10pm on November 7. The count will be held on Friday, November 8.
