AN ELGIN Indian restaurant is celebrating after clinching two national awards within a week.

Panache was named as one of country's best curry houses in the 13th Scottish Curry Awards 2021, picking up both the north and overall winner in the Best Dining Experience of the Year category.

The black-tie industry celebration was held at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel, in Glasgow, on November 15.

The restaurant team then topped their success with a UK-wide award on November 22, earning the title of Asian Restaurant of the Year for Scotland at the 11th Asian Curry Awards at a ceremony in London's Mayfair.

The Asian Curry Awards shortlist was determined by more than 100,000 votes from members of the public. A team of judges toured the UK to determine the winners, with preference shown to restaurants whose menus featured authentic regional dishes with modern gastro influences.

Earlier this year Panache manager Jabir Hussain (32) was recognised as a "community hero" by the Asian Catering Federation after the business provided more than 500 free meals to Moray frontline workers over the Covid-19 lockdowns.

Jabir said: "We are overwhelmed by these wins after all the hard work put in by our staff.

"These awards were voted for by customers. Without their support we could not achieve this. We're so happy.

"We won over so many big, nice restaurants all over Scotland. It's unbelievable.

"Massive thanks to our loyal supporters, and our staff for constantly giving in the restaurant, even on the hard days."
