MORAY'S Conservative MP Douglas Ross has called for the resignation of Tory Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

Mr Johnson earlier admitted attending a garden party – for 25 minutes – at 10 Downing Street on May 20, 2020, at the height of coronavirus restrictions.

Douglas Ross said yesterday that Mr Johnson should resign if he attended the party, and has today backed up those calls.

Speaking to the BBC, Mr Ross said: "I said yesterday that if the Prime Minister attended this event then he couldn't continue.

"That would have been breaking the rules that were in place at the time. Today, he accepted and admitted he was there.

"He apologised for that and, crucially, said if he had his time again he would have done things differently. That for me is an acceptance from the Prime Minister that he did wrong.

"Therefore, consistent with what I've said before, I don't think his position as Prime Minister and leader of the Conservative Party is tenable and he needs to resign."

Douglas Ross initially said Boris Johnson should resign "if he misled parliament" at the start of December.

Mr Ross, who has twice welcomed Mr Johnson to Moray, spoke to the Prime Minister on the phone earlier today to make his position clear.

Moray's SNP MSP Richard Lochhead also called for the resignation of the UK's Prime Minister.

Speaking yesterday, he said: "The Prime Minister was telling people what they should and shouldn’t do and then, in the same breath, having parties and breaking his own rules.

"It's beyond any doubt that the reported Downing Street parties were not out of the ordinary, but that they were repeat offences and a culture of rule-breaking and dishonesty dominates this corrupt Tory government.

“Boris Johnston and his morally bankrupt and elitist government has lost all authority and he has a duty to do the right thing and resign."
