Douglas Ross MSP kicked out of the Scottish Parliament during First Minister’s Questions

A Highlands and Islands Tory MSP has been kicked out of parliament for heckling the First Minister.

Douglas Ross was asked to leave the chamber at Holyrood by Presiding Officer Alison Johnstone at the start of First Minister's Questions.

Ms Johnstone said: "Mr Ross, you have persistently refused to abide by our standing orders and I would ask you to leave this chamber and you are excluded for the rest of the day."

After repeating herself a number of times, the backbencher walked out.

Mr Ross was warned last week for not using "courteous" language during a Scottish Government debate on island communities. He had told the SNP "They just want a bl***y ferry."

He could be heard shouting “deflection” this morning as FM John Swinney attempted to answer queries from Scottish Conservatives leader Russell Findlay.

Mr Findlay asked the First Minister on what his response was to a Committee on Climate Change report suggesting that to meet the Government's Net Zero targets the number of cattle and sheep would have to fall by two million.

The Tory then claimed that, to meet the SNP's 2045 target of all homes having heat pumps, installations would need to increase five fold in five years' time.

Responding to the initial question, Mr Swinney replied that Brexit had damaged economic opportunities.

As the First Minister went to continue speaking, Ms Johnstone had to scold Mr Ross again.

"Ross, I have asked you to leave the Chamber," she said. "Please do so."
