EXPERIENCED leadership is essential for Scotland as the country emerges from the pandemic, the SNP candidate for Banffshire and Buchan Coast has stated.

The next set of decisions about Covid and a potential relaxation of the rules – including on meeting people in private homes – will be made just days after the election.

SNP leader Nicola Sturgeon has urged voters not to take a chance on Scotland’s progress, asking them to back her once more as First Minister.

The party's candidate for Banffshire and Buchan Coast, Karen Adam, said: “The first job of a newly elected government will be to decide on whether we are ready to lift restrictions even further on the May 17.

"That’s why I believe Scotland needs serious leadership for serious times.

“I am confident that the country is on the right track, and we will be able to take further steps to free up society and allow our economy to begin to recover.

“With infection levels low and over 60 per cent of people in Scotland having had their first dose of the vaccine, and over 1.2 million having had their second dose, we are moving in the right direction but we must protect that progress.”

She went on to say that while the vaccination programme and easing of restrictions had given "new hope" there were still many people who were struggling, something which "may be the case for many months to come".

“But we must not waver," Ms Adam continued.

"That’s why our focus is on Covid recovery – a priority that needs strong leadership.

"An SNP government led by Nicola Sturgeon will provide that leadership, giving us the opportunity not just to recover but to do more.

“We are the only party putting forward a coherent plan for the post-Covid environment. That’s why it is so important Scotland returns an administration with the experience and the will to invest in our nation's future.”

Also standing in Banffshire and Buchan Coast: Jason Duncan (Freedom Alliance); Mark Findlater (Conservative); David McHutchon (Restore Scotland); Alison Simpson (Liberal Democrats); Georgia Strachan (Labour).
