ELECTION 2021: Labour candidate Jo Kirby wants to focus on rebuilding

LABOUR’S Jo Kirby says her top priority is seeing an end to the divisive debates that have dominated Scottish politics in recent years, and the focus put on rebuilding society, the economy, and public services after Covid-19.
“I’m standing on a positive manifesto – with Labour’s National Recovery Plan at its heart. Here in Moray, our plan has five key points," said the Morat constituency candidate.
“First, we need an opportunities recovery: young people shouldn’t be forced to leave in order to fulfil their potential.
“As a local teacher, I’ll push hard for an education recovery, developing a plan which invests in schools, and IT support for all pupils.
“Third, we need an NHS recovery, including cancer treatment back on track, improving mental health provision, and a proper pay rise for carers. Never again should we be forced to choose between fighting Covid and fighting cancer.
“Fourth, anyone can look around and see the under investment of local communities . We need a community recovery fund to improve and revitalise local areas, and make communities safer.
“Finally, we need a transport recovery. We need to fully dual the A96, extend free bus services, and increase investment in active travel.”
She admitted the Labour Party has had a difficult few years, but insists it is on the way up again.
“Anas Sarwar’s optimism and positive message is a refreshing change from the bitterness and divisiveness of recent years. It is just what is needed.
“This is a proportional election, so there is no need to vote tactically. If voters want a break from the divisiveness of the past they can cast both votes for Labour on May 6.
