An advertisement which we publish in page three today may be said to record the most progressive undertaking that Elgin has ever faced – the introduction of electric light into the town.

During next week the public will be afforded an opportunity to take up shares in the company – The Elgin Electric Supply Company Ltd.

The share capital (£15,000) is divided into 15,000 ordinary shares of £1 each, and the minimum subscription at which the company may proceed to allot the shares has been fixed at £10,000.

At the end of seven, fourteen, or twenty-one years the Town Council will have the option to purchase the undertaking on terms, as the advertisement shows, which cannot be regarded as other than favourable to the interests of the shareholders.

Edmundsons Electricity Company, who are to instal the electricity, are to take up twenty-five per cent of the shares, leaving the rest to be provided by Elgin.

The subscription list will open on August 1, and the present intention is to leave it open until August 10.

There is no need to emphasise the boon this will be to the community, to the housewife, to the shopkeeper, to the tradesman and to the town itself in the possible launching of new industries and in the extension of present ones.

In the best interests of Elgin it is the duty of every citizen who has money to spare to lend a hand and play his part in the grey old town's development.
