Elgin City Band to perform "relaxing" evening of music
ELGIN City Band is set to put on a "light-hearted and relaxing" evening of music in the town.
On Friday, June 2, the brass band will play at the Laichmoray Hotel in Elgin, with all welcome and invited to attend. The music will begin at 7.30pm.
Band member Heather Park said: "It will be fairly light-hearted and relaxing and will feature some of our players individually and in small groups.
"It is so nice for these players to be brought to the fore so that we can put a name to them and appreciate their efforts.
"We will have the three trombonists doing a piece together, as well as the three horn players. There will be individual solos on cornet and euphonium, and the E-flat bass player from the back will get to show off for once.
"Our drummer will be featured as will our conductor, Bob Garrity, who will play for us, with his baton temporarily taken over by our deputy conductor, Tim Still."
Seating on the night will be in cabaret style, with guests welcome to have a little drink, available from the bar, while spectating.
Elgin City Band – formed in 1858 – is one of Scotland's oldest brass bands. The group last played at the Laichmoray Hotel in September 2022.
Heather, who has recently stepped down as chairperson to be replaced by horn player Lisa Morrison, added: "We are such an old brass band in Scotland – there can't be many, if any, from the mid 1800s as we are, especially in this northern part of the country.
"The desire is always to keep the band going as well as to enjoy the playing.
"Being in the band does us a lot of good too. I am always amazed that I can go in to our Wednesday rehearsal feeling the weight of the world on my shoulders and come out thinking – oh that was good, I feel so much better!"
The event costs £5, which is payable on the door. For more information, contact Heather Park on 01343549251.
