COACH-led tennis sessions are being offered for free at Elgin's Cooper Park.

Elgin Tennis Club has teamed up with national charity, Tennis for Free, to offer the Saturday lessons, which are open to people of all ages and abilities.

The free sessions run from 1-2pm and are followed by the opportunity to have a game with friends.

So far the sessions have been a huge success, enabling anyone who would like to try the sport to have a go for free.

They are led by Elgin Lawn Tennis Club senior coach, John Walker, a registered Level 3 LTA tennis professional, who is keen to make the sport as inclusive as possible.

Last year, the Tennis for Free sessions attracted around 180 players, with ages ranging from just 4 to over 70-years-old.

This year, John is keen to widen the net and said: "Tennis for Free provides an opportunity to play tennis in a fun environment, facilitated by an experienced coaching team."

Set up in 2004, Tennis for Free was established to provide access to public park tennis courts, working in partnership with local clubs.

Elgin Tennis Club warmly embraced the project and provides all tennis equipment; all the players need to bring is enthusiasm and a sense of fun.
