ELGIN Cycling Club is set to support Moray's food bank with a fundraising ride tomorrow.

The cycle, due to start at 8.45am at Grant Lodge in Cooper Park, will see riders offered three separate routes – one 43 miles, one 60 and one 100.

All are welcome to attend the cycles – named reliability rides. Entry fees will support Moray Food Plus, while all taking part are asked to bring along donations and foodstuffs for the organisation.

More than 90 cyclists have already signed up to tackle one the circular routes on offer, with all heading for a coffee stop in Findochty before heading back to Cooper Park.

Event organiser Lorna Breetze said: "We knew Moray Food Plus are under huge pressure of late and that a donation would help the organisation support more families and individuals in need locally.

"Then we realised we could also ask the riders to bring along supplies or donate on the day, as they gathered to start the rides. All our riders so far are keen to help Moray Food Plus.

"As well as our regular stalwarts, we have had interest and entries from riders as far away as Skye and Ellon."

Traditionally, reliability rides have been organised to test the suitability – or reliability – of riders’ bikes, legs, hearts and heads for the season ahead after a long winter.

Elgin Cycling Club are offering reliability rides – as well as regular club rides – to a wide range of regular riders.

There is a thriving ‘touring group’ – who cycle at a relaxed 13mph average, as well as hugely competitive racing groups.

Club events include British Cycling races, time trials, night rides and fun days out.

Regular Sunday rides start at 9am. New riders are invited to come along for two taster rides before deciding whether to join the club.
